Audience/Marketing Automation

In this topic you will learn how the Audience module can be used to track viewer activity.

The Audience module provides the ability to track viewing activity. In this scenario, viewing data is not sent to a marketing automation platform. One common use case for this would be internal training videos. Audience tracking can be used to track the viewing activity of internal employees. To enable and use Audience tracking, the following steps are required:

  1. Enable Audience tracking for the account
  2. Configure a player to use Audience tracking
  3. Configure a lead form
  4. View video data

Enabling Audience tracking

To enable Audience tracking for the account, open the Audience module and then click Settings in the left navigation. Locate the DATA COLLECTION section and set Enable Audience tracking to Enabled.

Note: With Audience tracking, up to 5,000 viewers will be tracked per 24 hour period.

Configuring a player for Audience tracking

Viewing activity can only be tracked when when video content is viewed inside of an Audience-enabled video player. In this topic, a new player for tracking will be created.

Note: It is possible to create an Audience-enabled player by adding the Audience plugin to an existing player. For complete information on creating Audience enabled players, see Creating an Audience-enabled Player.

To create a new Audience-enabled player using the Audience module, follow these steps:

  1. Click Setup in the left navigation.
  2. Click Create Player. A new Audience-enabled player will be created. The player will have the name Audience Player - today's date.

Configuring a lead form

While a lead form is not required, lead forms can be used to collect information about the viewer and turn anonymous viewers into known viewers. For information on creating lead forms, see Creating an In-Player Lead Form.

Once a lead form is created, it should be associated with the player that will be used for Audience tracking. To assign a lead form to a player, follow these steps.

  1. Click Setup in the left navigation.
  2. In the AUDIENCE PLAYERS section, locate your player. Select the lead form from the dropdown list.
