This topic provides an overview on how to modify player settings in the Players module.

For the legacy Players module UI go here.

To configure or edit player settings, open the Players module and click on a player name. To edit the player properties, click an item in the left navigation menu.

The following player properties can be configured:

Note: Any changes made to a player may take up to 5 minutes to appear in published players.

Player Information

The Player Information properties are used to configure the player name, sizing, aspect ratio, dimensions update mode and version. For more information, see Setting Player Information Properties.

Styling

The Styling properties are used to configure the player type, player appearance, colors and a player overlay. For more information, see Styling Players.

Playback

The Playback properties are used to configure the video playback options. For more information, see Configuring Player Playback Properties.

Controls

The Controls properties are used to configure the controls that appear in the player control bar. For more information, see Configuring Player Controls.

Social

The Social properties are used to configure the social options for the player. For more information, see Configuring the Social Properties for a Player.

Plugins

Plugins use a combination of HTML, JavaScript and/or CSS to customize the behavior of the player. Plugins can be developed to:

  • Modify the default behavior of a player
  • Add functionality to a player
  • Customize player appearance

End Screens

The End Screens properties are used to configure what is displayed when a video ends. For more information, see Configuring the Player Endscreen.

Advertising

The Advertising properties are used to enable IMA ads in a player. For more information, see Configuring Player Advertising.

Content Restriction

The Content Restriction properties are used to configure domain restrictions and geo filtering for the player. For more information, see Configuring Player Content Restrictions.

Audience

The Audience properties are used to enable Audience integration and configure the player with an Audience connection and lead form. For more information, see Creating an Audience-enabled Player.

JSON Editor

The JSON Editor can be used to edit the player configuration. Care should be taken when editing the player configuration.

Note: This is an advanced option and should only be used by publishers who are comfortable editing the player configuration.

Legacy Players module UI

To configure or edit player settings, open the Players module and click on a player link.

The following player properties can be configured with the legacy UI:

Player Information

The Player Information properties allow you to view the player version number and to customize the player name and short description. To edit the Player Information properties:

  1. Click the Edit button or double-click in the section.
  2. Enter a name and short description for the player.
  3. Click Save to save the changes.

Note that the Published Player Version indicates the player version as published by Brightcove. As Brightcove continues to develop and improve the Brightcove player, new player versions will be released. By default, updates are applied to all players automatically. To prevent auto-updating of a player, you must set the Update Mode setting to Manual (also known as locking a player). For more information, see Setting the Player Update Mode and Version.

Settings

The Settings properties are used to configure the player update mode and version, video auto-start, fullscreen options, playlist options and the player dimensions. For more information, see Configuring Player Settings.

Styling

The Styling properties are used to configure the player skin, the icon, progress bar and background colors and a player overlay. For more information, see Styling Players.

Plugins

Player plugins use a combination of HTML, JavaScript and/or CSS to customize the behavior of the player. Plugins can be developed to:

  • Modify the default behavior of a player
  • Add functionality to a player
  • Customize player appearance

Social Sharing

The Social Sharing properties are used to configure the social sharing options for the player. For more information, see Configuring the Social Properties for a Player.

Endscreen

The Endscreen properties are used to configure what is displayed when a video ends. For more information, see Configuring the Player Endscreen.

Availability

The Availability properties are used to restrict the videos within a player to show only in specified domains. For more information, see Configuring Player Content Restrictions.

Video Content

The Video Content properties are used to configure the poster image and video to display inside the player. For more information, see Configuring the Video Content Properties for a Player.

Note: The Video Content properties are only available when using Brightcove Player Studio.
