Analytics Report Reference

This topic provides a reference to all of the reports that you can generate in the Video Cloud Studio Analytics module. Read Getting Started with the Analytics Module for information about how to use the Analytics module. A different set of data is presented in the Video Cloud Studio Reports page. Read more about the Reports page.

In this release of Video Cloud, you can view and export the following reports in the Analytics module. Note that per video reports are available only for Video Cloud Pro and Enterprise publishers.

Each of these reports is described in detail in the following sections.

Engagement reports

Video Views

The Video Views report displays the following data for your account:

  • All time views. The total number of times your videos have been viewed, ever, including views outside the report time span. This excludes any video views that occurred before November 7, 2009, when we deployed trackers for the Analytics module.
  • Total views. The total number of times your videos have been viewed during the report time span.
  • Average per day. The total views divided by the number of days in the report time span.
  • Max per day. The greatest number of views on any single day.
  • Views per day. A line graph that shows the views per day for each day in your report time span. As you move your mouse over the line in the graph, you can see the number of views for each day.

Exporting Video Views

When you export the Video Views report, you have the choice of exporting an overview or a per day report. The default file name has the format videoviews_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have selected a single player, the data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=All time views
column 2=Total views in the period
column 3=Average per day
column 4=Maximum per day

If you have selected more than one player, column 1 contains the player names.

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=# of views

Viewed Minutes

The Viewed Minutes report displays the following data for your account:

  • Viewed minutes. The total number of minutes of video viewed during the report time span.
  • Average per day. The average number of minutes of video viewed per day during the report time span.
  • Max per day. The greatest number of minutes viewed on any single day in the report time span.
  • Viewed minutes per day or viewed minutes per view. A line graph that shows either the number of minutes viewed per day, or the number of minutes viewed per view, for each day in your report time span. 

Exporting Viewed Minutes

When you export the Viewed Minutes report, you have the choice of exporting an overview or a per day report. The default file name has the format videominutes_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have selected a single player,  the data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=# of viewed minutes
column 2=Average per day
column 3=Maximum per day

If you have selected more than one player, column 1 contains the player names.

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=# of viewed minutes
column 3=# of viewed minutes per view
column 4=% of views to 50% mark
column 5=% of views to 75% mark
column 6=% of views to 100% mark

Attention Span

The Attention Span report displays what percentage of your viewers watched what duration of your videos, with a line graph showing the percentage that watched for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 30 minutes. The datagrid displays the total number of video views for the period and the percentage of views that were longer than 10 seconds and longer than 20 seconds.

Exporting Attention Span

When you export the Attention Span report, you have the choice of exporting an overview or a details report. The default file name has the format attentionSpan_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have selected a single player, the data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=Views
column 2=Percentage of views longer than 10 seconds
column 3=Percentage of views longer than 20 seconds

If you have selected more than one player, column 1 contains the player names.

The data columns for the details report are:

column 1=Time duration
column 2=Percentage of video views exceeding

The rows of the details report show the percentage of video views exceeding 10, 20, 30, 60, 120, 180, 300, 600, 900, and 1800 seconds.

Video Engagement

The Video Engagement report displays the following data for your account:

  • A table that lists each video in your account that had at least one view during the report time span. For each video, the table lists the video name, video ID, the number of views, viewed minutes, and the percentage of views that reached the 50%, 75%, and 100% completion mark.
  • A chart that shows graphically how far into the selected video your viewers continued watching. You can also use the preview player next to the chart to play the video and see exactly what was happening in the video at the points where viewers dropped off.

Exporting Video Engagement

You can export data either from the datagrid (which shows information for multiple videos) or from the video engagement graph (which shows a single selected video) in the Video Engagement report page. When you export the Video Engagement report from the datagrid, the default file name has the format engagement_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. Only the videos displayed on the currently open page of the datagrid are included in the exported report. The data columns are:

column 1=Video Cloud video ID
column 2=video name
column 3=# of views
column 4=# of viewed minutes
column 5=% of views to 50% mark
column 6=% of views to 75% mark
column 7=% of views to 100% mark

When you export the Video Engagement report for a single video from the video engagement graph, the default file name has the format videoengagement_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns are:

column 1=time period in seconds
column 2=# of views

Audience reports

New Viewers

The New Viewers report displays the following data for your account:

  • Viewers. The total number of new viewers of your videos during the report time span.
  • Average per day. The total number of new viewers, divided by the number of days in the report time span.
  • Max per day. The greatest number of new viewers on any single day in the report time span.
  • New viewers per day. A line graph that shows the number of new viewers per day for each day in your report time span. As you move your mouse over the line in the graph, you can see the number of new viewers for each day.

Exporting New Viewers

When you export the New Viewers report, you have the choice of exporting an overview or a per day report. The default file name has the format newviewers_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have selected a single player, the data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=# of new viewers
column 2=Average per day
column 3=Maximum per day

If you have selected more than one player, column 1 contains the player names.

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=# of new viewers

Unique Viewers

The Unique Viewers report displays the following data for your account:

  • Viewers. The total number of unique viewers of your videos during the report time span.
  • Average per day. The total number of unique viewers, divided by the number of days in the report time span.
  • Max per day. The greatest number of unique viewers on any single day in the report time span.
  • Unique viewers per day. A line graph that shows for each day in your report time span either (1) the number of unique viewers per day, (2) views per unique viewer, or (3) viewed minutes per unique viewer. As you move your mouse over the line in the graph, you can see the data for each day. Total unique viewers over a date range will typically be less than the sum of the daily unique viewers, as the same viewer can appear on multiple days and will only be counted once if the specified date range includes both of these days.

Exporting Unique Viewers

When you export the Unique Viewers report, you have the choice of exporting an overview or a per day report. The default file name has the format uniqueviewers_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have selected a single player, the data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=Viewers
column 2=Average per day
column 3=Maximum per day

If you have selected more than one player, column 1 contains the player names.

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=# of unique viewers
column 3=views per unique viewer
column 4=viewed minutes per unique viewer

Geographic Analytics

The Geographic Analytics report shows where in the world your viewers are, based on their IP addresses. A table shows each country that had at least one viewer during the report time span, together with the number of video views and the number of minutes viewed. You can use the zoom and scroll controls on the map to get a more detailed look at regions of the world.

State/Province and City data

In addition to country-level data, you can get a report at the state/province or city level. Select a country, either in the data grid or on the map, and its state/province and city data appears on tabs in the lower right:

To return to the world map, click < Global above the map.

For the US and Canada, state/province data corresponds to the ISO-3166-2 code for the state/province name, with the addition of AA, AE, and AP for US Armed Forces America, Europe and Pacific. For the rest of the world, state/province data corresponds to the FIPS 10-4 code. However, note that state/province data breakdowns are not available for every country in the world. (We don't provide separate data for each parish in Barbados, for example.)

Exporting Geographic Analytics

When you export the Geographic Analytics report, the default file name has the format geo_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. If you have a country selected, then you have the choice of exporting country data, state/province data, or city data.

The data columns are:

column 1=country code
column 2=country, state/province, or city name
column 3=# of views
column 4=# of viewed minutes 

Technology trend reports

Platform trends

The Platform Trends report shows views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view, for a specified date range broken down by Flash or HTML5 video player platform. Platform trend analytics excludes any player loads and video views that occurred before June 3, 2011, when we began to track both Flash and HTML5 platform traffic.

Exporting platform trends

When you export the Platform Trends report, the default file name has the format platformtrends_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=player platform
column 2=# of views
column 3=# of viewed minutes
column 4=viewed minutes per view

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=operating system 1 views
column 3=operating system 1 viewed minutes
column 4=operating system 1 viewed minutes per view

with further columns for views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view for each other player platform system.

Browser trends

The Browser Trends report shows views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view, broken down by browser type within the specified date ranges. This excludes any player loads and video views that occurred before October 4, 2010, when we began to track this data.

Exporting Browser trends

When you export the Browser Trends report, the default file name has the format browsertrends_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=browser type
column 2=# of views
column 3=# of viewed minutes
column 4=viewed minutes per view

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=browser type 1 views
column 3=browser type 1 viewed minutes
column 4=browser type 1 viewed minutes per view

with further columns for views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view for each other browser type.

OS trends

The OS Trends report shows views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view, broken down by operating system (Windows 7, Windows XP, Mac OS X, etc.) within the specified date ranges. This excludes any player loads and video views that occurred before October 4, 2010, when we began to track this data.

Exporting OS trends

When you export the OS Trends report, the default file name has the format ostrends_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns for the overview report are:

column 1=operating system
column 2=# of views
column 3=# of viewed minutes
column 4=viewed minutes per view

The data columns for the per day report are:

column 1=Date
column 2=operating system 1 views
column 3=operating system 1 viewed minutes
column 4=operating system 1 viewed minutes per view

with further columns for views, viewed minutes, and viewed minutes per view for each other operating system.

Traffic sources reports

Embedded Domains

The Embedded Domains report lists the top domains where your players have been viewed. The datagrid displays up to 1000 domains, including for each:

  • Embedded Domains. The URLs of the domains that host your players.
  • Views. The number of video views on that domain.
  • Viewed minutes. The minutes of video viewed on that domain.
  • % of views. The percentage of your account's total views viewed on that domain.
  • % of viewed minutes. The percentage of your account's total viewed minutes viewed on that domain.

A pie chart shows the top 10 domains, either by views or by viewed minutes.

Exporting Embedded Domains

When you export the Embedded Domains report, the default file name has the format topdomains_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns are:

column 1=Domain
column 2=Views
column 3=Viewed minutes
column 4=% of views
column 5=% of viewed minutes

Referring Sites

The Referring Sites report lists the top referring sites to your players. The datagrid displays up to 1000 referring sites, including for each:

  • Referring site. The URLs of the domains that referred viewers to your players.
  • Views. The number of video views for referrals from that domain.
  • Viewed minutes. The minutes of video viewed for referrals from that domain.
  • % of views. The percentage of your account's total views for referrals from that domain.
  • % of viewed minutes. The percentage of your account's total viewed minutes for referrals from that domain.

A pie chart shows the top 10 referring sites, either by views or by viewed minutes.

Exporting Referring Sites

When you export the Referring Sites report, the default file name has the format trafficsource_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns are:

column 1=Referring site
column 2=Views
column 3=Viewed minutes
column 4=% of views
column 5=% of viewed minutes

Search Terms

The Search Terms report lists the top search terms that directed viewers to your players. The information is taken from the HTTP_REFERRER header, and will include search queries entered into search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. The datagrid displays up to 1000 search terms, including for each:

  • Search term. The search term from which viewers found your players.
  • Views. The number of video views deriving from that search term.
  • Viewed minutes. The minutes of video viewed deriving from that search term.
  • % of traffic. The percentage of your account's total views deriving from that search term.

A pie chart shows the top 10 search terms, either by views or by viewed minutes.

Exporting Search Terms

When you export the Search Terms report, the default file name has the format searchterms_YYYY-MM-DD_YYYY-MM-DD_timestamp.csv. The data columns are:

column 1=Search term
column 2=Views
column 3=Viewed minutes
column 4=% of views
column 5=% of viewed minutes
