You can use the Brightcove Studio to manage the users who are authorized to use the Studio. Note that to access the Users page, you must be a Brightcove Studio user with the Admin role.

To access the Users page:

  1. Sign in to the Brightcove Studio.
  2. Click the Users link at the top right, under the navigation bar.

If you are an Admin user, you can use the Users page in the Brightcove Studio to:

How many users can I have?

The number of users you can create depends on what kind of Brightcove account you have. Read about the plans that are available to you. If you need to add more users, you can upgrade your plan to one that offers more users. The limit applies only to the total number of users in existence at any time; if you create 10 users, delete 5 of them, and create 3 more users, you are considered to have 8 users. The Users page displays how many users you are entitled to and how many additional users you can create.

Adding a new user

To add a new user on the Users page:

  1. Enter the following information under Create User:
    • email address
    • first name
    • last name
  2. Select a role for the user.
  3. Select which of the Studio modules this user should have access to. By default, all users have access to all modules.
  4. Click Create User.
When you create new users, the users receive email from Brightcove notifying them that they have been added to the Brightcove account.

Editing an existing user

You can edit the information for an existing user on the Users page. Under User Accounts, click the Edit link at the far right and change the user's role or module access. Note the following:

  • Changes to a user account do not take effect until a user signs out of Brightcove Studio and signs in again.
  • You cannot change the name or email address for a user. Instead, delete the existing user and create a new one with the new name or email address. Users can use the Profile page to edit their own personal information.
  • Each account has a primary user. You cannot edit or delete the primary user; only Brightcove Customer Support can change or edit the primary user for an account.
  • You cannot edit the user information for the user identity you signed in with. Edit and Delete options do not appear on the Users page for your own user identity.

Deleting an existing user

To delete an existing user on the Users page, under User Accounts, click the trash can icon at the far right. Note that this operation cannot be undone, and that you cannot delete the primary user for the account or the user identity you signed in with.

When you delete users, the users receive email from Brightcove notifying them that they have been removed from the Brightcove account.

About user roles

In this release of Brightcove, two user roles are defined, Admin and Standard:

  • Users with the Admin role have read and write access to the Studio modules, as well as the Reports, Users, and Account Settings pages. They can create new users and edit user permissions and roles.
  • Users with the Standard role have read and write access to each of the Studio modules, but not to the Reports, Users, or Account Settings pages.

By default, both Admin and Standard users have access to all of the Studio modules. An Admin user can edit any user's settings to deny access to one or more modules.

You can assign as many users as you want to the Admin or Standard roles, up to the limit of the number of users authorized for your account. Note that if you change a user's role, the change will not take effect until the user has signed out and signed back in to the Studio.

Deprecated roles

Note also that previous releases of Brightcove had several additional roles: Production, Finance, Programmer, and Administrator. If you were a Brightcove customer prior to the release of Brightcove 3, you may have users who had one or more of those roles.

  • In this release, users with the Production or Finance roles cannot access the Studio. If you were a Brightcove customer prior to the release of Brightcove 3, any users with the Production or Finance roles in your account will appear disabled in your Users list. To enable these users for Brightcove Studio, click Enable Now and give these users the Standard or Admin role, with access to some or all Brightcove Studio modules.
  • Any users with the Programmer role have been converted to the Standard role; any users with the Administrator role have been converted to the Admin role. All of these users by default have access to all of the Studio modules.
