This reference lists the default settings Video Cloud uses when we transcode videos you upload.

When do the default transcode settings apply?

These settings will not affect you if you have already changed your default transcode settings, whether you changed them yourself using the Account Settings: Transcode Settings page or you asked Brightcove Customer Support to change them for you. However, if you have already set your own custom transcode settings, you can easily adopt our default settings by clicking Restore Defaults on the Account Settings: Transcode Settings page.

For related information, see:

What are the default trancode settings?

The default transcode settings differ, depending on whether you are creating:

Single Rendition

If you direct Video Cloud to create a single rendition of a video you upload, its default trancode settings will be:

width x
height
codec and profile video bitrate type video bitrate (kbps) audio bitrate (kpbs) passes frames per second keyframe rate
480x360 H264
BASELINE
VBR 620 80 2 Same as source 2

Multiple Renditions

If you direct Video Cloud to create multiple renditions of a video you upload, the default trancode settings of the renditions will be:

order width x
height
codec and profile video bitrate type video bitrate (kbps) audio bitrate (kbps) passes frames per second keyframe rate
1 480x360 H264
BASELINE
VBR 436 64 1 Same as source 2
2 400x300 H264
BASELINE
CBR 110 40 1 15 fps 5
3 400x300 H264
BASELINE
VBR 260 40 1 Same as source 2
4 640x480 H264
MAIN
VBR 704 96 1 Same as source 2
5 720x540 H264
MAIN
VBR 1072 128 1 Same as source 2
6 1280x960 H264
HIGH
VBR 1672 128 1 Same as source 2

The width and height are used for videos with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Transcoding preserves the source video's aspect ratio; if the source video has a 16:9 aspect ratio, the width is the same, while the height is proportionately reduced.
