Editing a custom template in the Publishing module

To edit a custom player template in the Publishing module:

  1. In the All Templates view, select the template you want to edit.
  2. In the action toolbar, click the Edit button. The Edit Template dialog displays.
  3. Make any changes you want to make to the template's name, description, or XML markup.
  4. If you make any changes to the XML markup, click Validate Code to make sure your XML defines a valid player template.
  5. Click Preview Template to see what your new player template looks like.
  6. Click Save Changes. A warning displays, reminding you that any changes you make to a player template will immediately affect all players you have already created using that template. Click Save.

Template errors

When you click Validate Code, if your template has any validation errors under the BEML DTD, the template editing window's border turns red and the Format Code, Validate Code, Preview Template, and Save Changes buttons are disabled until you correct the error. The line number of the line with an error is highlighted in red, and if you mouse over the line number, you can read the error message for the validation error.

Duplicating a custom template in the Publishing module

You can make a copy of a player template. This lets you create a similar custom template with different default properties and make changes to a template without affecting existing players that are based on the original template. To duplicate a player template in the Publishing module:

  1. In the All Templates view, select the template you want to duplicate.
  2. In the action toolbar, click the Duplicate button. A new template appears in the Publishing module, with all the same properties as the original template, except the word "copy" is appended to its name.
  3. Select the new copy template and click the Edit button to make any changes you want to make to the template's name, description, or XML markup.

Deleting a custom template in the Publishing module

To delete a custom player template in the Publishing module:

  1. In the All Templates view, select the template you want to delete.
  2. In the action toolbar, click the Delete button.
  3. A warning displays, reminding you that deleting a player template is permanent. Click Delete to confirm the deletion.

Note that you cannot delete a player template if you have any players that use that template. You must first delete all the players that use a template before you can delete the template.
