The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) evaluates and recommends standards and practices for interactive advertising. The IAB issues compliance seals that verify that companies are compliant with IAB standards and guidelines.

Rich Media Creative Guidelines

IAB Rich Media Creative Compliance Seal

The Rich Media Creative Guidelines give advertisers and their agencies the ability to develop advertising content with consistent specifications, which can be accepted by many of the leading interactive publishers. Although Brightcove does not develop ad creatives, it provides guidelines on how to create ad creatives that comply with the IAB standards.

Video Ad Serving Template (VAST)

IAB Digital Video Ad Serving Template (VAST) Compliance Seal

This Video Ad Serving Template (“VAST”) includes a standard XML-based ad response for in-stream video as well as an XML Schema Definition (“XSD”) for developers. It is meant to accommodate the majority of current practices within the online digital video advertising business.

VAST is designed for any on-demand video player where the ad response is parsed prior to play. For example, use of this standard would be appropriate within an Adobe Flash player if the ad response was requested and parsed in ActionScript.

The goal of this specification is to be compatible with any video player framework that has the ability to be scriptable. It will be up to each Secondary Ad Server to develop its own implementation of the standard and it will be up to each publisher or vendor to implement the standard in their Primary Ad Server and their Video Players.

Universal Ad Package

IAB Universal Ad Package Compliance Seal

The IAB's Ad Sizes Task Force developed the Universal Ad Package, which is a set of four ad sizes that all compliant member publishers have agreed to support. This standard was developed to reduce the cost and inefficiencies associated with planning, buying, and creating online media. Brightcove supports the ad sizes specified in the Universal Ad Package.

Digital Video Ad Format

IAB Digital Video Ad Format Compliance Seal

The IAB has developed guidelines and best practices for the most common current in-stream ad formats, including:

  • Linear video ads
  • Non-linear video ads
  • Companion ads

These guidelines and best practices have been constructed for these common ad formats in order to meet the needs of the marketplace by providing a common set of creative submission guidelines, common ad sizes for overlay and companion ads, and a series of best practice recommendations for creative development and player environments. Brightcove complies with the IAB Digital Video Ad Format.
